There are numerous walks, excellent Trekking facilities, and some world class archaeological and historical sites. Starting from Tarbert Castle you can follow the Millennium Walk (7-8 miles) over the hill to Skipness. On this walk you will encounter breath taking views of Loch Fyne and spectacular scenery. Walks in the vicinity of Skipness are often rewarded with sightings of basking shark, otter, deer and red squirrel while walks along the shores of scenic West Loch Tarbert may encounter otter, deer, seabirds, waders and good plant hunting. The luxuriant gardens about Stonefield Castle offer a never to be forgotten vision of Himalayan and South American plants.
Kintyre is exceptionally rich in wildlife, and has some of Scotland's best sandy beaches too.
Golf – a popular activity, with 5 courses in Kintyre. Tarbert has it's own 9 hole course on the Kilberry Road. There are also courses at Machrihanish, Southend, Inverary and Carradale.
The most famous is the championship course at Machrihanish, with it’s stunning and renowned first hole, authoritatively voted the best opening hole in the world.
